This mural, located inside the Portsmouth Square Garage on the Kearny Street level, was a collaboration between the artist Nancy Mora and the Portsmouth Plaza Parking Corporation Board members. The artist’s vision was primarily based on her childhood memories of when she attended John Yehall Chin Elementary School in Chinatown in the early 90's. Her most treasured memories are of the lion dancers performing in the school’s auditorium and celebrating the Lunar New Year.

The mural was created in-kind by Chinatown Visual Arts Association as a gift to the Chinatown Community and visitors in honor of Portsmouth Square Garage’s 60th Anniversary.

The unveiling ceremony was held at Portsmouth Square Garage on Feb 3, 2023. This was made possible by our sponsors, listed as follow:
